Apply for the Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship Program 2024 for Young Africans

Applications are now open for the 2024 Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship Program. After multiple highly successful cycles of the Global Citizen Scholarship Program, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is proud to announce another call for applications for what will be the 7th round of our Global Citizen Scholarship, with the objective of empowering young African global citizens who are passionate about taking action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Starting date: April 2024

By carrying out your own SDG micro-project, you can improve your entrepreneurial abilities for sustainable development, expand your network, and seize the opportunity to improve your practical knowledge and skills on sustainable development!

If you fulfill all the eligibility criteria below, then apply by February 25, 2024!

During the nomination process, you will need to enter:

Your personal details (e.g. name, contact information, date of birth, address, citizenship, gender, education, language competence, short profile description)
Your professional details (e.g. academic titles, name of organization, function)
SDG Micro-Project information (title, issues and SDGs tackled, general process and implementation)

At the final stage of the nomination process, you will be prompted to attach the following:

your motivational statement
a portrait picture of yourself (JPEG or PNG format)
an introduction video of yourself (maximum 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV format)
your CV
a project outline of your SDG Micro Project idea

You will always be able to save your nomination form as a draft and come back to it later.

Requirements for Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship

African youth regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation
Applicants must hold citizenship in one of the following countries:

The training targets 17 young African changemakers, ages 20 to 35, from the following countries:

Ghana
Nigeria
Cameroon
Ethiopia
Kenya

Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree or higher
Applicants must demonstrate strong dedication to the SDGs and the ideals of global citizenship.

Applicants must have a minimum English level B2 (European Standards)

Benefits of Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholarship

Over the course of 8–9 months, the selected scholars will get the chance to enhance their skillset on Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, elevate their knowledge with regards to the field of entrepreneurship for sustainable development, and connect with professional networks.

Besides this, some of the benefits will include full-cost coverage for a one-week summer school training with MCI Innsbruck, coverage of other expert workshops, a peer-to-peer mentoring component, and seed funding of 500 USD to support the implementation of an SDG micro-project to be distributed after the successful submission of a project proposal.

Lastly, scholars will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement after the successful completion of their own SDG micro-project, signed by both co-chairs of the Ban Ki-moon Center, H.E. Ban Ki-moon and H.E. Dr. Heinz Fischer.
